How to make a blank United Kingdom map
- Open the United Kingdom map. Start from the button above. What a click paints here is one county, and there are 216 of them, all listed further down this page. Check that list before you start: it is the whole of what this map can colour.
- Write the legend before you paint. Add one entry per category and say what it means in your own words. The legend is part of the exported image, so a map that made sense to you at midnight still makes sense to someone who sees it cold.
- Fill the counties. Every click paints one county. With 216 of them, the fastest route is often to fill everything in a baseline colour first and then paint the exceptions, or to paste a table of values and let the colour scale do it.

What exactly does this map cover?
England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are drawn at one level, so Scottish council areas and Northern Irish districts sit alongside English counties. The editor can also draw the UK as its four nations instead, from the country picker.
Can I colour something smaller than a county?
Not on this map. It works at county level, which is the level nearly every map of the United Kingdom is drawn at.
Can I put the names on the map itself?
Yes. Region labels can be switched on for the whole map, in a colour and size you choose, and you can write your own text for any county where the real name is too long to fit. On a busy map most people leave the labels off and let the legend carry it.
Can I put the United Kingdom on a map with other countries?

Do I need an account?
